In the exhibition Paintings from afar, the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac presents a little-known facet of its collections: paintings by Western artists spanning from the 18th century to the mid-20th century. In response to the shock of a world opening up to them, these artists expressed their sensations, emotions and points of view in different ways, from dream-like creations to naturalism, fantasy to documentary, and romanticism to colonial propaganda.
To help you discover this collection and examine our relationship to the Elsewhere and the Other – places and people defined as foreign and different – we have devised a themed, musical tour in the company of the exhibition’s curator, Sarah Ligner.
